ThunderCan Rifle Suppressors

Shooters design SAS ThunderCan Rifle Suppressors for shooters. Our rifle suppressors culminate decades of use, design, and engineering. We have a world-class solution, from our ultralight, titanium, and full-auto-rated suppressors to our belt-fed hard-use rifle suppressors, and large-bore suppressors.

Accuracy: Our rifle suppressors are engineered to maintain your current rifle's accuracy through complete suppressor concentricity. Our rifle silencers allow every projectile fired to have an even dispersion of pressure as it travels through the bore. This provides superior system accuracy and minimal point of impact (POI) shift.

Reduced Flash: ThunderCan Rifle Suppressors are engineered with a patented baffle stack and SAS proprietary material coating on internal parts, allowing for the lowest possible flash signature.

Recoil Reduction: Our Rifle silencers allow maximum recoil & back pressure reduction regardless of the caliber of rifle or configuration.

Sound Reduction: Significant reduction in impulse noise levels, allowing the shooter to perform at the highest level with protection from hearing loss.

Mounting Solutions: Our rifle silencers can be direct thread mounted and accept SAS Taper Lock or ASR Mounting Systems.

Benefits of Rifle Suppressors

Hearing Protection:

A rifle shot can produce sound levels well over 160 decibels (dB), which can cause permanent hearing damage. While rifle suppressors do not make the rifle silent, they do reduce the sound by 20 to 35 decibels (dB), which brings the sound of the shot below 140 decibels (dB), which is considered in the safe range.
This is important for activities such as:

  • Recreational Shooting - Keeping the shooter and those around them at a safe Decibel (dB) level at the shooting range.
  • Hunting - Hearing is important to hunting game and rifle suppressors allow hunters to hunt safely without protective hearing devices.
  • Training New Shooters - Reduced noise levels protect hearing while being instructed, and the reduced noise and recoil provide a less intimidating experience.

Reduced Muzzle Blast:

The concussive force of a rifle shot can be rough. Rifle suppressors trap and disperse the gases created by the shot, significantly reducing the blast and making the experience more comfortable.

Reduced Muzzle Flash:

Rifle suppressors capture unburnt gun powder and gases greatly reducing the muzzle flash from the rifle barrel. In military applications, this also preserves the shooter's night vision and gives away position.

Recoil Reduction:

Rifle suppressors do add weight to the end of the barrel and redirect and slow down expanding gases, both of which contribute to a noticeable reduction in recoil.

  • Better Shot Placement - This provides improved accuracy where the shooter can maintain a more stable shooting position and obtain a better placement of shots on the target.
  • No Flinching - Rifle suppressors also decrease the shooter’s tendency to flinch in anticipation of the recoil.
  • On Target Quickly - With less muzzle rise and recoil, the shooter can quickly get back on the target for subsequent shots.
  • Comfort - Rifle silencers provide a more comfortable experience, allowing more practice and enjoyment in the sport.

Reduced Noise Pollution:

  • Environmental Impact - Less disruptive to wildlife when shooting at the range or hunting.
  • Neighbor Relations - Reducing the audible footprint at the range or on private property means happy neighbors.

Categorizing Rifle Suppressors

Rifle suppressors can be categorized a few different ways. By their attachment, internal design and construction, caliber specific vs. multi-caliber/modular types, materials, and finally by fixed length or modular length.

Rifle Suppressor Attachments

This is one of the most common ways to differentiate rifle suppressors, as it dictates how you'll attach and detach the suppressor from your firearm.

Direct Thread Attachment:

This is the simplest method. The suppressor screws directly onto the threaded muzzle of the rifle barrel. The suppressor has internal threads matching the barrel's thread pitch. For example; 1/2x28, 5/8x24, etc.

Pros:

  • Generally the lightest and shortest mounting option.
  • Often the most affordable.
  • Some precision shooters believe it offers the best concentricity and thus accuracy (minimal "tolerance stacking").
  • Ideal for a dedicated suppressed rifle.

Cons:

  • Can be slow to attach/detach.
  • Prone to "walking off" (loosening) during extended firing.
  • No muzzle device when the suppressor is removed (no flash hider or brake).
  • If you have multiple rifles with different thread pitches, you'll need a different direct thread adapter for each, or a suppressor that uses a "HUB" (universal mounting system) that accepts various direct thread adapters.

Integral Suppressors:

These are not attachments, but rather the barrel itself is designed with an integrated suppression system. The barrel often has ports that bleed gas into an expansion chamber surrounding the barrel, all contained within an outer tube.

Pros:

  • Very quiet (especially for rimfire and subsonic calibers).
  • Can result in a more compact overall firearm length (since the suppressor adds length within the barrel).
  • Very clean aesthetic.

Cons:

  • Cannot be removed from the firearm.
  • Specific to a single firearm/caliber.
  • Complex to clean.
  • Require specialized gunsmithing or sold as complete upper receivers.

Quick Detach (QD) Attachment:

This type of rifle suppressor attaches to a muzzle device (like a proprietary flash hider or muzzle brake) that is permanently mounted to the rifle barrel. This rifle suppressor attachment quickly locks onto this muzzle device using a variety of locking mechanisms (ratcheting, taper lock, collar, etc.).

Pros:

  • Fast and easy attachment and detachment.
  • Very secure mounting preventing loosening during firing.
  • Allows one suppressor to be easily swapped between multiple rifles (as long as each rifle has the compatible QD muzzle device).
  • The muzzle device provides function (flash suppression or recoil reduction) when the suppressor is not attached.

Cons:

  • This type of rifle suppressor attachment adds more length and weight compared to direct thread.
  • Typically more expensive due to the need for proprietary muzzle devices and more complex locking mechanisms.
  • Can introduce "tolerance stacking" which some argue slightly impacts accuracy (though modern QD systems are highly repeatable). Popular QD systems include Dead Air KeyMo, SilencerCo ASR, Q Plan B, etc.
